Parents Are Asking AI What to Buy. Here's How to Make Sure Your Brand Gets Recommended.

Most holiday shoppers now ask ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini for gift ideas. Five ways family brands can show up in AI recommendations.

There's a quiet shift happening in how families shop for the holidays. More and more, they aren't starting with a Google search or an Instagram scroll. They're opening an AI assistant and asking it for ideas.

Optimove's 2026 Holiday Shopping Report found that 72% of surveyed US consumers regularly or occasionally use tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini for shopping ideas and gift recommendations.

Think about how a parent or grandparent might ask:

  • "What's a good gift for a 3-year-old who loves water play?"
  • "Best non-toxic sippy cups for toddlers?"
  • "Gift ideas for a new mom under $50?"

The AI answers with a handful of recommendations. Your goal is to be one of them. Here's how to improve your chances.

1. Write product descriptions that answer real questions

Product Copy

AI tools pull from the information available about your products. If your descriptions are vague or full of internal jargon, there's not much to work with.

Make sure each product page clearly states the details parents look for:

  • Age range or stage (newborn, toddler, 3–5 years)
  • Sizing and fit details that answer fit questions upfront
  • Materials and safety details that parents inspect before buying
  • The specific problem it solves or the need it meets

2. Add FAQs to your product pages

On-Page Content

Parents have questions, and AI assistants are trying to answer them. A short FAQ section on each product page helps both:

Clear, direct answers make your products easier to understand and easier to recommend.

  • "Is this safe for newborns?"
  • "What size should I buy for a 2-year-old?"
  • "Is it dishwasher safe?"
  • "Does it make a good gift?"

3. Build up your reviews

Social Proof

Recommendations lean heavily on trust signals, and reviews are one of the strongest. Ask recent customers for reviews, and prompt them to mention their child's age and how they use the product.

Reviews like "Perfect for my 18-month-old who hates bath time" give shoppers and AI tools exactly the context they need.

4. Make sure your product information can actually be read

Technical SEO

This one is technical but important. Some AI tools struggle to read content that only appears after complex site scripts load. If your key product details are hidden that way, they may be invisible to the systems generating recommendations.

Ask your developer or platform to confirm that product names, descriptions, prices, and key details appear in your page's standard text.

5. Lead with quality

Positioning

The same Optimove report found that shoppers ranked quality (81%) ahead of price (70%) as a top factor in their holiday purchase decisions. That's good news for family brands that don't want to win on discounts alone.

Make your quality story clear and specific: what your product is made of, how long it lasts, and why parents trust it. That gives AI tools and the parents reading their answers a reason to choose you.

The bottom line

AI recommendations don't replace your ads, email, or social. They're one more door into your store, and that door is opening fast. The brands that make their products easy to understand, easy to trust, and easy to recommend will be the ones that show up.
