The Pre-Black Friday Checklist for Family Ecommerce Brands (2026)

Black Friday is Nov 27, and Cyber Monday is Nov 30. Here's the week-by-week checklist family brands should start now.

This year's holiday shopping window is shorter than usual. Thanksgiving falls late, so Black Friday lands on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30. That leaves fewer shopping days between the biggest sales weekend of the year and Christmas.

For family-focused brands, that changes the math. Parents plan ahead, grandparents and gift-givers shop late, and both groups are deciding where to spend sooner than you think. The work you do in October decides how November goes.

Here's the checklist we use with our own clients, broken into four stages so you can work through it one week at a time.

Stage 1: Now (October)

October

Choose an offer that's actually profitable.

Most brands check whether a discount works after product costs. Check it after ad costs, too. Q4 ads are the most expensive of the year, and a 30% discount can quietly turn a profitable sale into a loss. If a deep discount doesn't work, consider a bundle, a gift with purchase, or free shipping.

Lock your key dates.

Decide when early access opens, when the sale officially starts and ends, and your last day to order for delivery before Christmas. Check those cutoffs with your shipping carriers now, not in December.

Start testing the ad creative.

Ads that have been running and learning for several weeks usually scale more cheaply than brand-new ads launched in the busiest week of the year. Use October to find your winners. Then, in November, put more budget behind proven ads instead of guessing.

Grow your list with an early-access sign-up.

Give people a reason to join now: first access to the sale, a holiday gift guide, or a bonus gift. Every subscriber you add in October is someone you can reach in November without paying for an ad.

Stage 2: Four weeks out

Early November

Build your BFCM email and SMS calendar.

A simple sequence works: a teaser, early access for subscribers, launch day, a mid-sale reminder, and a last-chance send. Write and design them now so you're not building emails during the rush.

Check your automated flows.

Your welcome, abandoned cart, and browse abandonment flows will see more traffic in late November than at any other time of year. Make sure they're on, on-brand, and mention your holiday offer.

Create a gift guide built for how families shop.

Sort products by age (newborn, toddler, big kid) and by who's buying (parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, family friends). Gift-givers often don't know sizes or what the child already has, so make it easy for them.

Stage 3: Two weeks out

Mid November

Test your site on your phone.

Click an ad, browse, add to cart, and check out, all on mobile. Fix anything slow, confusing, or broken. Most of your holiday shoppers will buy on their phones.

Make your shipping cutoff impossible to miss.

Put "Order by [date] for delivery before Christmas" in your site banner, on product pages, and in the cart. It's honest urgency, and it answers the question every holiday shopper is asking.

Warm up retargeting audiences.

Make sure the people visiting your site, watching your videos, and engaging with your social posts are being captured. Then you can reach them the moment the sale goes live.

Stage 4: The week of

Thanksgiving / BFCM Week

Send early access to subscribers first.

They're your warmest audience and your most likely buyers. Rewarding them first also makes your list feel worth being on.

Check results every day.

Look at what's selling, which ads are performing, and which emails are driving revenue. Move budget toward what's working.

Don't stop at Cyber Monday.

Plan a follow-up push for the first two weeks of December. After your shipping cutoff, switch to gift cards and e-gift options for last-minute shoppers.

The bottom line

A shorter season rewards brands that prepare. If you work through this list one stage at a time, you'll go into Black Friday with a profitable offer, tested ads, a full email calendar, and a site ready to convert.
